Art has been a big part of my life. Growing up in Sri Lanka, I appreciated my parents nurturing my creativity from a young age. Migrating to Australia in 1987, I studied Interior Design at QUT and worked in the building industry until having kids. Many years later, I rediscovered my childhood love of art after some health issues. Painting has been vital to my healing and is now my main occupation.
I enjoy working with Oils on canvas, but have also painted in acrylics, water colour, pastel and mixed media. Colour and composition are integral to my work. Colour sets the tone and livens the painting while strong lines and shapes structure the artwork.
My combined love of travel, architecture and nature is evident in my art work. While this exhibition features some faraway places, my recent works are inspired by Australian landscapes. I love challenging myself with a variety of subjects including portraits.
My paintings have been exhibited at the Rotary Spectacular, Lethbridge 20,000, Aspire Gallery, Marist Tower Art Show and at the Qld Ekka – where ‘The Old Shed’ (hanging here) received a ‘High Commendation’ Award.
